Apple Pencil not charging via Lightning cable

Recent purchase of 6th generation iPad and Pencil. I found that the Pencil will charge fine from the iPad, however, it will not charge using the adapter and Lightning cable. This was raised with Apple Support and I have had the Pencil replaced at the Apple Store. The new Pencil behaves the same!

I am using the supplied adapter (the right way round) and cable that came with the Pencil.

The charging Widget shows that the Pencil is connecting to a power source, but the charge level does not advance.

I have tried various USB sources but found no difference (Apple, wall socket, PC).

iPhone 5c, iOS 7.0.4

The adapter could be bad. I would contact Apple and ask for a replacement adapter. If the Pencil charges from the iPad, and the same lightning cord charges your iPad, that only leaves the adapter as a possible faulty item.

If you end up going to the store again, bring along everything you can - your iPad, the Pencil and adapter, and the lightning cord. They'll likely want to test the hardware themselves, too.

Thanks Lyssa, that is the conclusion I came to - I'm aiming to take it up with Apple or find someone to lend me a known working adapter.
