how to remove subtitles from an AVI movie file?

I have recently downloaded a few AVI movies which come with spanish subtitles......it's a bit annoying.Therefore,i would like to remove it.

My Question:Can it be done using iMovie HD?If can,then how?
If cannot,then what are the alternatives?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

to make subtitles on/off switchable, is a feature of a videoDVD...
I'm pretty sure, your ".avi" is a solid stream of video ... no chance to extract the subtitles, these are "printed" into the film...

ask the maker of that .avi to switch off the titles ...

be nice to copy rights ... 😉

actually,i have found a way to remove the subtitles using virtualdub....However,it requires a lot of effort and time to do it.So,i guess i will just live with it.
