missing songs
most of the songs I've purchased from iTunes over the years or downloaded from CDs are missing

This is on your phone ? If you've deleted the music from the phone you should be able to sync it back from your computer's iTunes library (copy it back from your backup of the computer if it's no longer on it), and/or for store purchases (if the music is still in the store and if you haven't moved countries) : Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books from the iTunes Store, iBooks Store, and App Store - Apple Support (and check to see if you've hidden any : Hide and unhide music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and books - Apple Support)
