Serious issues with Safari - freezes and spinning wheels

I'm having issues with Safari.

1. Each time I try to access Safari > Settings I get a spinning wheel for appr. 2 min before being let in.

2. When finally inside Settings, when I click on "Safety" it's the same thing, more than two minutes of spinning wheel.

3. Each time I try to visit Washingtonpost.com I also get spinning wheel and "no answer" status from Safari in Activity monitor.

I've emptied all cache, trashed plist and cache-files in Library and tried all the tricks listed on the support forum, still same result. Below is the rapport from Etrecheck. Would be so grateful for any comments.

You are welcome. It doesn't appear to be running in the Etrecheck report, but if you still have BitDefender installed, try uninstalling it.

It tends to interfere with the computer's operation while providing minimal to no benefit unless you work with Windows files. Most long time posters recommend not using antivirus software or cleaning software such as CleanMyMac. They can adversely affect normal computer operation.

Bitdefender uninstall

Bitdefender uninstall (2)

Thanks. I had Bitdefender installed originally, before all the issues. Actually, the issues started after I uninstalled Bitdefender (using the uninstaller you link to): I read up the virus situation on Mac and it hit me that I didn't need the Bitdefender-application, so I removed it. Then the problems in Safari started, or at least that's what it looks like to me (I never had the issues before uninstalling Bitdefender. These Safari-issues occurred either when switching to my new 2018-computer or/and in combination with removing Bitdefender).

After trying your remedies above the problem were still there, so I erased and reinstalled the system from scratch. After the reinstall - and before installing any other application -- I went to Washingtonpost.com: same issue = freezing upon loading taking a full 2-4 min to render the page. When I click another link on the website, same thing.

After force quitting and starting Safari again I went to Safari > Settings: same issue = complete freeze for 2-3 minutes (Safari "not responding" in Activity monitor) then it opens the Settings window. I click through all tabs, no problem, until I get to Safety (is that the title in English? In Swedish it's "Integritet") = complete freeze for 2-3 minutes.
