Home pod 1 and home pod2

Is there a way to choose which home pod responds to you when you have them set up to be a stereo pair? Is it somthing they decide on their own? Huge pain in the rear end here. Because the one that responds is on the other end of my room. I mean i suppose i could move it but if they decide on their own wont the other one just decide to be the primary?
