Upgrade R9 M395 GPU on Late 2015 27" iMac?

As the title suggests, I am having issues with getting games to run without stuttering on my 2015 27" iMac with 5K Retina display. I have tried a number of solutions relating to the Radeon settings (and game settings), without any joy. So, if I want to keep this computer and improve my gaming, is it possible to upgrade the GPU itself?

I know this iMac was originally offered with a R9 M395X with 4GB (I only have 2GB), but I am not sure that would give me the boost I need. Is it possible to update to something even more current?

Replacing the internal card is not an option, but you could expand the GPU selection with the external option

At this time OS X 10.13.6 still includes external GPU support for Macs but only on AGP/ATI cards.

That isn't really a viable option, if you want a gaming machine then either upgrade your iMac to a more powerful machine or possibly purchase a gaming PC.
