Audio Input Latency Problem in Garageband 10.3.1

I reported this issue back in Jan 2018 and problem still persists.

I made a major "upgrade" to a new iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 40 GB 2400 MHz DDR4.

I am experiencing a big problem with latency (delay) in recording to any input (monitored and unmonitored). I've tried the built-in mic. I have tried my SnowBall mic I've used for years now, and both produce a full 1 sec delay.

I am not using any effects.

I've tried everything I can think of. I've read many dead-end threads on this subject. Nothing seems to fix it. I'm at a loss.

Is it High Sierra? CPU? Garageband? Is it some "simple" setting I'm missing?

Has anyone had this problem? help.

Update...

So, after a year of this ridiculous issue (with no constructive help or solution), I happened to read a thread where someone talked about recording issues with bluetooth headphones. hm.

Voila! It was my GD wireless headphones. Don't ask me why or how this was causing this problem.

I assumed the headphones (a very expensive pair), as a mere output, couldn't be the problem because the issue manifested in the delayed recordings that I had to manually move/align/fix. Go figure.

Hopefully this helps someone dealing with this.

Hi there, rm@rm!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having issues with some latency when using GarageBand and I’m happy to help out! I recommend starting by taking a look at this article with steps to follow to Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac. This will perform checks and stop certain software from starting up automatically. Once you are in safe mode, see if you see the same issue. Also, check out this article with steps for How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac to create a new user and test the issue in the new account to see if the issue is user specific or system wide.
Let me know the results and have a great day!
