AirPods don't hold their charge

I have the iPhone 7 and the latest update (11.4.1) is installed. Both the phone and airPods were purchased 12/2016. The AirPods have worked great until the last few weeks. I charge them in their case every night along side the iPhone. I typically use one AirPod at a time and while it used to hold a charge for several hours, it now only stays charged for about an hour, causing me to have to switch them out frequently during the day. I can't think of any reason this would happen. The only thing I could think of to do about it is to restart my phone, which didn't help at all. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, I'd appreciate some help. Thank you!
