Why does the Apple Watch not have a button start/stop option to solve the sweat issue that renders the watch virtually useless for running?

When running, and therefore sweaty, the touch face of the watch is not responsive. As a result most serious runners are forced to use a Garmin or other running specialty watch. So inconvenient on many levels. Every runner I know would prefer to run in the Apple Watch, but until this issue is addressed we are unable. Garmin came out with a touchscreen a few years ago, and quickly went back to button based start / stop / pause on most of there high end products. I would love to be able to use one watch for everything!

Makes sense.

Correct, there are many things my AW3 can do for every day life that the Garmin cannot. However, for exercising the Garmin can do things the AW3 cannot and therefore meet my needs better for exercising. I need longer GPS life than what my AW3 can provide for my bike rides--my Garmin does this. I want buttons for start/stop/laps instead of touchscreen that the AW3 provides--Garmin does this. I need the GPS to lock-in before I begin a ride/before I hit the start button so all of my miles are tracked--my Garmin does this (the AW3 might miss the 0.3 of a mile, up to 0.8 of a mile before the GPS locks-in, as evidenced by looking at post ride mapping). I want my screen to stay on during a ride without raising my arm/wrist (and not be a battery drain with the screen "on" during the duration of a 4-6 hour ride)--my Garmin does this. I want to see my cadence and power numbers during a ride, unlike what my AW3 can provide--Garmin does this.

Again, I love my AW3 for most things except what I do at the gym or on my bike. I don't mind owning a secondary device for exercising (in this case, I have 2 Garmins -- one that is bike specific and the other gym/running specific).
