How to open a FASTA file?

I downloaded a FASTA file & when I try to open in I get the following message: There is no application set to open the document “B160757-FASTA.fasta”. What program should I select? Pages? Numbers? Something else? I can not even right click on it to click on it to be able to get to "get info". Help please!!

The Blast .fasta file format is supposed to be a text file containing genome sequencing data. If it really is a text file with the .fasta extension, you may be able to duplicate it in the Finder, and then change the duplicate's extension to .txt. Once you do that, TextEdit should open it. If TextEdit refuses to open it, then you may need the original authoring (Blast) application from that NIH link.
