Can't control volume for external monitor - "USB Type C Monitor "The selected device has no output controls"

Same here - MacBook Pro 2018, no volume control possible.

Solution: switched from the LG-provided cable shipped with the monitor to an Apple Thunderbolt3-USB C cable. Everything works now (volume control from System Preferences / Sound or keyboard shortcuts).

that appears to be controlled by a joystick on the main on-off button on the bottom of the display. They also suggest you use

System preferences > sound

... to set the display as the main sound output device

They also have some software that talks to settings in the display.

I strongly suggest you acquire a Thunderbolt-3/USB-C to DisplayPort cable for optimum operation. USB-C to a display is a compromise.

Does your monitor have bluetooth capability? If so, connect to that and the buttons should work.

1. Turn monitor volume all the way up.

2. Connect to monitor via Bluetooth

3. Use keyboard volume controls to turn down volume*

*Note: It changes the volume coming from the Mac, but the volume will always be at max on the monitor. This probably doesn't make sense, but you'll see what I'm talking about.

That is quite correct. And currently, you are not getting the fastest possible screen re-draw and your sound is not changeable.

Hoped this also would be the solution for my MacBook Pro 2017, but unfortunately after changing the LG-provided cable to an original Apple Thunderbolt 3 USB-C cable still not possible to control the volume from my MacBook.

I have a Macbook Pro 2017 with a LG34UC99-W with a certified USB-C cable. If I make the settings as you indicate, I have the problem that the sound (after switching to internal) goes through the internal boxes of the Macbook Pro and not through the speaker of the LG34UC99-W. What am I doing wrong? Or what should I adjust?

Then i hear the sound from my MBP and not from my monitor's internal boxes.

I have solved it now but using a SoundControl application (https://staticz.com/soundcontrol/).

This works very well! For me this problem has been solved :)

I wish we could find a solution for this, I have the exact same issue, funnily enough on windows 10 loaded in bootcamp, the sound control works perfectly for the external speakers..

What monitor are you using? The lg27uk850 or the Ultrafine?

Can you also adjust the brightnes by the Apple Keyboard control keys?
