I had an iPhone 6s and got an iPhone 8 Plus. I backed up the 6s. When I logged into my Apple ID, my contacts were the only thing that restored on my phone. Will my pictures go on my phone as well? How long does it take? How do I know they’re processing?
It sounds like your contacts may have transferred because they were synced (via the option at Settings > [username] > iCloud > Contacts). If your photos were synced via Settings > [username] > iCloud > > Photos > iCloud Photo Library, they would also automatically sync if that option was also turned on in the new phone but it would take longer.
If the photos in the old phone were not in iCloud Photo Library but you did do an iCloud Backup, then you would need to use that backup to set up the new phone. See: Transfer content from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Dd you actually restore the backup of your old phone to the new one, or did you just log into your iCloud account? you need to actually restore the backup.
