iPhone issues after update to 11.4.1 (black screen, dropped calls, music issues, charging issues)

Hello,

After recently updating my iPhone 8's software to version 11.4.1, I've been experiencing a multitude of issues which have made my phone buggier than it has ever been:

1. Whenever I'm surfing the web and move my finger towards the top of the screen near the camera, the screen turns black. When I move my finger away, the screen returns to normal. I know this is supposed to happen if your forehead is near the sensor while on a call in order to prevent unintentionally hitting buttons with your cheek, but it is now happening when not on calls and as a result of my finger being near the sensor. It is incredibly annoying.

2. I have been experiencing an increase in dropped calls. Prior to upgrading, calls rarely dropped. After upgrading to 11.4.1, I've had calls drop repeatedly, at least once per call and that's if I'm lucky. The other day, my call dropped 8 times during the same conversation. Knowing that my call can drop at any time makes me incredibly anxious whenever on a call, especially when speaking with customer service departments after having been on hold for long periods of time that put you back at the end of the queue if the call is disconnected.

3. Music played using the music app pauses and starts by itself. This becomes incredibly annoying when the phone isn't in my hand, and I have to consistently reach into my pocket to un-pause a song.

4. Charging now takes longer. Prior to the update, my phone would charge at a rate of about 1% per minute. Now, it's getting stuck for long periods of time around 80% and if it makes it through the 80s, takes about an hour to go from 96% to 100%.

5. I don't get banner notifications after receiving text messages when my phone is unlocked

These glitches have made the phone a nightmare to use for the 4 things I primarily use it for - surfing the internet, talking on the phone, listening to music, and texting. Does anyone have any solutions to these problems and is there a way to downgrade the iOS? I typically try to delay software updates for as long as possible in order to avoid glitches but for some reason I decided to update to 11.4.1 and have been regretting it ever since.

Have you tried any troubleshooting?

Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.

Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).

Restore: Connect your iPhone to iTunes on your computer, backup, and then select Restore to Factory.

How to erase your iOS device & then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups.

If the above doesnt work for you, then:

Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.

1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and leave

one end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds

until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.

* If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the

Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,

release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.

3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the

device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,

let the device charge for at least ten minutes, and then start with step 2 again.

4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.

When this screen appears you can release the Home button:

5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:

6. Use iTunes to restore the device.

If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
