Is it possible to save iMessages to a hard drive?

iMessages are very important to my wife and she wishes to save messages to a hard drive to be able to erase them from her phone. I am just curious if there is a way to do this?

If you have a Mac, the Messages app there can be used to store messages.

Otherwise you can simply copy and paste them as text to any text editor on either a Mac or PC.
