Garageband Lessons Download Issue

Other than the 'Basic Guitar' & 'Basic Piano' lessons which are already downloaded and ready to use in the 'Learn To Play' section, I clicked on 'download all' for the other free lessons. That is the 'Rock Guitar' & 'Blues Guitar' and 'Pop Piano' & 'Classical Piano' lessons.

It has been three days since then and they just keep downloading forever. The status on each download keeps changing from 'Downloading' to 'Pending' to '2 minutes left' etc and each and every download has the blue progress bar to almost the end like it is almost completely downloaded or will finish downloading any second.

But that's about it! No downloads, no temp folder that I can find, even if I pause the downloads they still keep are active changing from Pending to Downloading etc. I can not delete any of them I can't do anything! When i check in the Library/Learn To Play folder I see the Basic Guitar & Basic Piano Lessons there. Other than that nothing! I would like to stop this from going on endlessly! Any help, please?

Hello faraazfk,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to download additional lessons in the GarageBand on your iMac. To help with your situation, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents startup items and login items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log into your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Thanks for replying, faraazfk, and that additional info, it really helps! Since safe mode didn't help with your situation, your next step is to make a backup of your personal data and then reinstall GarageBand with the steps below:

Reinstall GarageBand

If you still can't resolve your issue, reinstall GarageBand. You don't have to remove everything related to GarageBand, such as projects. You just remove and reinstall the GarageBand application.

To reinstall GarageBand:

  1. In the Finder, choose Applications from the Go menu.
  2. Locate the GarageBand application and drag it to the trash.
  3. Open the Mac App Store
  4. Click Purchased in the Mac App Store toolbar.
  5. Sign into the Mac App Store using the Apple ID you first used to purchase GarageBand.
  6. Look for GarageBand in the list of purchased applications in the App Store. If you don't see GarageBand in the list, make sure it's not hidden. See Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store for more information.
  7. Select Install to download and install GarageBand.

Thanks for the reply becky_s22. It had slipped my mind to mention in my first post that I had done exactly that after nothing seemed to work (sorry about that). But when I reinstalled GB, and opened the Choose window, all the previous downloads doing their thing was all back! Nothing changed! The thing that frustrates and surprises me most is that while reading the Help Manual it is clearly mentioned that one can delete a download at any stage of its progress by simply selecting it and hitting the Delete button on the keyboard! But that does not happen! Nothing ever happens! There must be a solution! Thanks!
