Preview is not responding and I can't Force Quit

I have been culling my Pictures and got to a point where I could no longer open Preview. Now I get a message that Preview is not responding and I can neither close the application nor restart the computer. Any ideas?

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

Hi,

Does Force Quit not work ?

Press the keys CMD + ALT + ESC all at the same time and choose the errant app in the list and click the Force Quit Button.

Right Clicking the icon in the DOCK may also show the Force Quit option if the app is not responding.

If none of those work can you launch Activity Monitor ?

It is Applications/Utilities.

Find the App in the list, highlight then use the icon that looks like a Stop Sign to Force Quit. It will ask you to confirm.

The last of all options is to hold down the power button for 5-7 secs and this will shut down the Mac.

It will not save (or try to save) anything during this move.

Hi,

Some apps store what they have done in temporary files that are dumped when the app is closed.

The purpose in many cases is to allow for Undos to take place.

In System Preferences > General pane you can set the number or remembered item that can be shown as "Recent".

This can be Server, Documents and Apps.

Servers are literally any other computer whether it is a server or not in the IT sense.

Documents are anything an App can open. So Pictures and Preview "Documents" Many apps will have a Recents option in the file Menu.

The Apps part explains itself. However the Apple Icon top left that has it's own Menu has a Recents option that shows all the lists. (or if like me, who has 20 as the set figure, as many as will fit on the screen)
