when I check the Display preferences on my Macbook, I see the following resolutions listed: 640x480, 640x480 (stretched), 800x500, 800x600, 800x600 (stretched), 1024x640, 1024x768, 1024x768 (stretched), 1152x720, 1280x800.
so, no 854x480, but that is certainly not a standard resolution.
I don't know if it's relevant, but I have to connect my macbook to a smartboard. And in order to project to it I press the apple key+F7 and it changes the resolution. Then press the same to bring it back to your normal resolution and disconnected it from the projector. Hope it helps....
Macbook through InFocus X-1 is projecting but when attempting to play a dvd to the projector from the Macbook it only shows on the Macbook screen. Any suggestions?
Usually when you connect an external monitor or TV the Displays system preference panel will automatically detect it and offer the resolutions it supports for you to select. These will also depend on whether you are connecting via a DVI (preferred), Composite/SVHS or VGA adapter.
You should be able to drag the DVD player window onto the external desktop and then when you select fullscreen it should display on it. Alternatively try VLC which allows you to select which device to display on.
