Photos from iCloud backup of iPhone 4 (iOS 7)
My old iPhone 4 (latest supported iOS 7) died on me a couple of weeks ago; the only thing I am really interested about is the photos stored in that device, and hopefully backed up in the cloud.
I had iCloud enabled but I am not 100% sure if I had ticked something off in the iCloud (or iCloud backup) settings... I just know that I was paying into the 50 GB storage plan, just for the reason of the device memory (~16 GB) running low. That iPhone was connected to a wall plug, locked and on WiFi several nights per week (I remember it nagged me when it hadn't backed up for a week or so).
So, before I get a new device, I got hold of an old iPhone 4S (iOS 9) from a relative, which has a burned-out WiFi antenna. I set up this new device and restored the "basic" stuff (contacts etc) easily from mobile network. Apparently, I cannot restore from iCloud backup over mobile data (and this device has no WiFi), so I don't know if the Photos of my old iPhone are safe.
However, checking the Storage in the iCloud (from the iPhone 4S, the browser interface or the Windows app) reports that ~49GB are free, which is quite unsettling, because my photos were surely over 5-6 GB. Moreover, I cannot see anything labeled "<my_name>'s iPhone" or something in the iCloud backups (again: from the 4S, browser or the Windows app).
Question: Does all this sound to you that my photos are gone forever with the dead iPhone 4, because I messed up some iCloud (or iCloud backup) setting? 😟
Thanks for any help.
