Spilled liquid on MacBook Pro spacebar, now half of keyboard doesn’t work.

After the spill, I lightly wiped over the keyboard with a slightly damp-to-the-touch napkin and cleaned under the spacebar, then half of the keyboard stopped working. It wasn’t wet enough to affect anything, but everything was fine until I wiped it down. Strangely enough, the spacebar still works. As time has progressed, more keys have been affected. Since the keyboard is broken, I can’t reset the PRAM, restore the computer, or do anything upon booting. For some reason, the computer boots in safe mode without pressing any keys. Also, in the keyboard settings under “Input Sources”, some of the keys would register as strange symbols. Should I wait it out? Should I replace the keyboard? An external keyboard works, but that is inconvenient.

It is not going to get any better.

If you have AppleCare+ it will cover a large portion of accidental damage.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test

Similar to AppleCare+ for iPhone and iPad, each incident of accidental damage for Mac will carry its own price tag. Screen damage or “external enclosure damage” will run $99 per incident, while other damage, including water damage, will run $299. Users receive coverage of two incidents under AppleCare+, and after the two incidents have been used up, out-of-warratny replacement rates will apply
