Apple Watch (series 1) - WatchOS 5

What are the new features that will be added on version 5?

is it advisable to update once it has been released?

I am afraid that it will slowdown the overall performance. Just like what happened to my older devices that gets updated a with new major iOS update.

Any response would be highly appreciated.

Hello.

It seems like watchOS 5 comes to the Apple Watch Series 1 with all new features, what are:

  • Walki-Talkie
  • new Workouts like yoga and hiking
  • competitions with friends in Activity
  • automatic workout detection
  • Siri watch face is about to get smarter with 3rd party apps
  • Siri is also getting Shortcuts just like on iOS 12
  • you don't have to say "Hey, Siri" anymore, just raise your wrist
  • podcasts app
  • webkit (you can view links to the web sites)

I haven't tested the beta on my Apple Watch, cause according to the reviews, it was pretty baggy.

So if it slows down the Series 1, we will find out on the release later in September.

You can find out more about watchOS5 more on the Apple's website

If you are unsure my advice is to delay and see what happens when WatchOS 5 is released. There is no requirement to upgrade immediately so sit back and wait, there should be user feedback posted here to show what early adopters have discovered. Upgrading might be a poor experience anyway for the first day or two while the must-have-now squad overload the servers and internet connections in their rush to be first.
