Welcome to the Apple Support Communities, NP!

After reading your post, I understand that when you open and use Final Cut Pro X, your computer's memory or storage gets low. I'm happy to help!

I see you've come from the Apple Support article How to free up storage space on your Mac - Apple Support . If the issue you are having is in fact because the storage is too low, this is the perfect article to use.

If you've gone through those steps to free up space and still are seeing an issue, you might be having trouble with the memory on your Mac. Memory is different than storage; while storage allows you save your documents and data, memory is used while you're actively utilizing an app and accessing those documents and data. Memory, therefore, is constantly moving and adjusting in response to what you're doing with the computer. When your memory is low, your computer does not have enough resources to allocate to your current task, and Final Cut Pro X can sometimes use a lot of your computer's resources.

Final Cut Pro X shouldn't use so much of the resources that you cannot do anything else or that you receive any errors, though. If you are seeing a low memory error or finding that the computer is running slower than you expect it to, I recommend using Activity Monitor to locate other apps and processes that are using the memory and quit them: How to use Activity Monitor on your Mac - Apple Support . You may also find resetting the computer's NVRAM may also help. More information on the NVRA (like what it does, and how to reset it) can be found here: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support .

If you continue to have trouble, don't hesitate to respond back. If you do, please include some more information about your situation, including:
  1. What exactly is happening with your system when you use Final Cut Pro X? For example, do you see any error messages (and if so, what are they)? Or, is the computer running slow or becoming unresponsive?
  2. What is the current macOS version installed on your computer? You can find this information under the Apple  menu > About This Mac (example: macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6)?
  3. What is the version number for Final Cut Pro X? You can find this information within Final Cut Pro X by selecting Final Cut Pro > About Final Cut Pro in the menu.
Cheers!
