Can AppleCare be renewed once it expires?

For example I bought iPhoneX today, it comes with 1 year manufacturers warranty. If I purchase AppleCare it covers anything manufacturer’s warranty doesn’t cover for up to an additional year.

Is there an option to renew AppleCare?

No, you can't renew AppleCare or AppleCare Plus. If you purchase AppleCare Plus (must be within 60 days of purchasing the phone) it adds an additional year, and also provides for a substantial discount on repairs not covered by warranty. For example, for an iphone X, screen repair is $29 instead of $279, physical damage to the phone is $99 vs $549. It also extends the free phone support from 90 days to 2 years.
