I recently updated to os X sierra 10.13.6, now I'm facing a problem with admin username and password. FYI I can login into mac, but can't change or add another user account and can't install any software.

I changed password twice after this issue raised. but my problem is with the lock icon. whenever u installed new software or needed to save setting we need permission from the admin. at this step it saying my credentials are incorrect. I don't have multiple usernames on my mac. I got only one user account.
It looks like your account is no longer an administrator of your machine.
Have you recently tried changing your username? That has been known to cause this problem.
If you only have this account, you are in a situation where there is no admin account on your mac. This can be rectified - assuming that you do NOT have a firmware password, and do NOT have FileVault activated.
After doing the procedure below, your mac will restart and will let you create a new account, which will automatically be an admin. Then you can use that account to give admin privileges back to your usual account. For the future, ALWAYS have an extra admin account on your mac.
Start in Single User Mode by holding Command-S at startup.
Then you need to type following commands at the prompt:
umount -rw /
rm /var/db/.appleSetupDone
reboot
I tried it man, but it doesn't work for me.

I copied the instructions from an old note that was incorrect.
It should be:
/sbin/mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.appleSetupDone
reboot
Is your user password not working? More information would help. Try resetting the password.
