Imbeded videos in Powerpoint won't play when shown in other computer.

Hi there. I encounter the following problem:
I make a presentation in Powerpoint and I include videos, and when I copy the file to a flash disk to play it on other computers (no matter if they are PC or Mac) Powerpoint searches for the video file.

I tried to save it as Powerpoint package or as Powerpoit Show with no luck. It saves it in a new folder as a .pps but the videos are still missing. I read all the instructions and it says clearly that this is solved when saving as a Package. But when I did that it just made a .pps file that didn't include the video files.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Since PowerPoint is not an Apple product. You'll get better response if you use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office> rather than an Apple forum that focuses on Mac/Windows compatibility.

Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered. You'll get your answer faster this way. Post your question in the forum if you don't find anything that helps you.

Thanks, but first of all this is a forum that a common feature represents us all; The use of mac computers.
Second, searching through the discussions sections, one can see questions about myriads of other products, e.g. Toast, Popcorn, other utilities, etc.
Third, the widespread use of MS Office and its compatibility with mac is one major reason for the switch of many users the last years to mac.
Fourth, I appreciate the help, but if someone else has an answer for the question I posted, that I am sure other have as well, please be kind and spend a few seconds to reply, and not to comment on the reasons someone posted this thread. If another section is more appropriate, please point it.

Many thanks in advance for the help, guys.

Did you also copy the video file over?

Ensure that the video file (before you insert it) is in the same folder as the PowerPoint presentation.

The copy over both the presentation file and the video file to your flash disk/drive.
Which wireless router/access point do you have?

Did you make any changes to the configuration?

Hi Felix and thanks in advance.

Yes, I copied all video files along with the presentation in the same folder and included them in a flash disk. It didn't play with this. Actually, when it reached the slide with the video it asked its location and prompted for searching (in both Mac and PC).

Why do u ask about the wireless router. Does it matter? I use Linksys wag354g wirelessly.

Is there any specific video format that a windows computer will surely recognise? I used .mp4

All of these forums have Apple products in common, yes.

But each is devoted to a specific niche issue, this one being Windows compatibility. Both Office and Windows are Microsoft products but Office is not Windows. These are two completely different products, which is why Templeton is directing you elsewhere.

Because you find questions here about non-Windows products that doesn't mean they're necessarily appropriate for this forum. Many folks wrongly equate Windows with applications they can run on Windows. Folks coming here to search for help with Macintosh and Windows compatibility issues shouldn't have to wade through irrelevant information. Likewise, you should be wanting ask your question in forums where they're most likely to get you a response you need.

To address your question: in your first post you already observed that your problem occurs with any other computers (Mac and Windows). Therefore, your question is not about compatibility. It's about portability. A more appropriate forum would be Microsoft's Mac PowerPoint forum found here <http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office.powerpoint>.

Please don't take my response as trying to be offensive or insensitive. I'm just trying to help guide you to a better place for your question.

Good luck finding your answer. bill
