iCloud music will not sync playlist songs

I have searched thoroughly and not found anyone with a problem exactly like this one. I just signed up for a free trial of Apple Music, and turned on the iCloud Music Library in order to access the downloaded songs on my Mac and iPhone 6. (I have never before used iCloud, and have synced my phone with my Mac using a lightning cable.) All of my (quite large) library uploaded to the Cloud, except the songs that were in playlists I had created. These songs now show greyed out on both devices, with the dotted cloud next to them on my Mac, and cannot be played ("Item not available" message on the iPhone). The rest of the albums the songs came from are okay, just not those particular songs that were also in a playlist. I have tried turning the iCloud library off and back on again (on both devices -- several times -- each time waiting hours for the spinny circle to indicate that the uploading had finished), clicking file> library> update icloud music library, and deleting the playlists (but not removing the songs). The missing files are from ripped CDs, so I cannot simply re-download them from the Store, and I certainly don't want to spend hours re-ripping dozens of CDs for 100 or so lost songs. Any useful suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I did find a solution, but not an answer. I went into the folders where iTunes stores my music files. As it turns out, all the greyed-out songs were... gone! Deleted! Not there! Thankfully I make backups and was able to restore all the missing songs. (A bit of a hassle, considering how may of them there were.) Why they got deleted in the first place, when I turned on iCloud Library... I have no idea.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, BLAYZE_INFYRNO!

I understand you've just started to use Apple Music and iCloud Music Library, but experiencing issues with certain songs not matching. I can understand how this may be concerning, especially if this songs are an essential part of the album. I'd be happy to provide information to help you out.

Start with this article: About iCloud Music Library icons and status

User uploaded fileNot Uploaded

This icon appears when a song is added to iCloud Music Library from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but can't be matched and isn't uploaded from a Mac or PC. To upload the song, turn on iCloud Music Library on the computer on which the full audio file is stored.

It is likely that these songs aren't being matched on Apple Music from your iPhone. You can get them to sync by turning on iCloud Music Library on your Mac.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a great day!
