World of Warcraft Gaming Compatibility

I have been playing World of Warcraft for years, and now a new expansion: Battle for Azeroth. Which, unfortunately now requires me to upgrade my current system to play it.

System requirements are as follows:

Minimum Requirements Recommended Specifications

Processor Intel® Core™ i5-760 or better Intel® Core™ i7-4770 or better

AMD Radeon™ R9 M290 or better
Intel® HD 530 (macOS 10.13 or higher, 45W)
2GB VRAM
Metal capable GPU
AMD Radeon™ R9 M395X or better
4GB VRAM
Metal capable GPU
Memory 4 GB RAM 8 GB RAM
Storage 70GB available space 7200 RPM HDD 70GB available space SSD
Internet

Broadband internet connection

Input Keyboard and mouse required.
Other input devices are not supported.
Multi-button mouse with scroll wheel
Resolution

1024 x 768 minimum display resolution

I'm thinking of purchasing the following machine:

21.5 inch iMac with retina 4K display

3.6GHz quad-core 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz

16GB 2400MHz DDR4

512 SSD

Radeon Pro 560 with 4GB video memory

Do you think this system would be substantial enough? Anything that is overkill? Should I upgrade or downgrade certain aspects?

Please let me know.

Kind regards,

Blubber Bear.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 12GB 1TB

Welcome, BB!

There do not seem to be a lot of gamers here. You might wish to post in WoW forums too, seeing if anyone has real-world WoW experience with a similarly-configured Mac.

I still do a little gaming (I'm almost 71)--mostly single player stuff--with my 2010 iMac with the 2.93Ghz i7. The processor still meets many current requirements. However, more and more games want a better GPU that my 1TB VRAM ATI Radeion 5750 that was "hot stuff" in 2010. Therefore I share padams35's concerns about the video hardware. You may need to get all the GPU you can now to keep the iMac relevant longer.
