Copy files from iPad Pro to USB drive?

So, I bought the Apple lightning to USB 3 adaptor, thinking I would be able to transfer photos to a usb drive, for use on a digital photo frame my parents gave me for my bday. Did I just waste $40 trying to do this? Because I don't see any way to copy file from the iPad Pro to the USB drive. I see people saying you can do it by transferring to a PC, then to the USB drive...if I had a PC, I wouldn't have needed this adaptor. Lol. All I have is my iPad Pro and my iPhone 8. So I'm SOL and have to tell my folks I can't use their gift?

This listing maybe incomplete and somewhat outdated, now. So do an online search for similar external data storage devices for iPads

Kingston Electronics makes some data storage devices for iPads/iDevices, now, too!

Yes. In anticipation of this negative result, I came across the SanDisk Connect Wireless Flash Drive. I'll probably give that a go and return this worthless adaptor...if they let me. I'm clicking on my order in the "Discover" section and "Account" section, but it's blank now. Lol.

Doesn't it strike anyone as odd that you can plug a flash drive into this adaptor and it will readily copy pics FROM the flasth drive TO the iPad Pro, but we're supposed to believe that it can't do the reverse? It's obviously reading the drive just fine. So, it feels like this is just another stubborn move by Apple.

I love their products. But when this kind of thing pops up, it's very frustrating. The convenience of iMessage, FaceTime, and their accessibility features are really the only things keeping me on their devices. When I can no longer easily invert screen colors, they'll lose me.

Thank you for the reply.
