MacBook won't let me change password

When I try to change my MacBook password, I get an error that says my password wasn't changed because the server wasn't available. The same thing happens whether I go through "Security & Privacy" or "Users & Groups." I made sure to click the lock open to make changes. I noticed a few people posted about this problem several months ago, but no answer was provided that worked.

Hello:

I understand that you are the final user, with the images that you share, I can detect that your machine lost the corporate domain, for that reason it will never allow you to make the network password change.

To solve this problem you must ask the IT department, re-enter the computer to your corporate domain, the message that you send when you change the password "The server is not avaible.change your password when the server becomes available", is because it does not find the corporate domain and you will never find it, until you reconfigure the Mac.

As a recommendation you have to make a backup of your account information, since when entering the domain, a new account may be created.

Your user account is operated locally, and you have a connection to the network services, since the network is structured with corporate dominoes

This problem could be caused since the equipment was not configured correctly

I recommend once the Mac is entered into a domain, change the password connected via Ethernet (the WiFi service must be turned off), so that the change replicates correctly

This information can be useful for your IT department

I hope with this you can solve the problem, you can edit the post and remove the network images if you wish

Regards

If the above doesnt' work, the Terminal app can be run, then type "man passwd [Return]" at the prompt. passwd can be used to change password. i don't know where the o went. There is a reason it wants the server available but passwd may not need that.

Another way to go about it is to first create a new user (if your allowed) and move over to the new user. The pass word Settings on the new account probably has "no quirks".

Hello:

You could share images about the configuration of accounts (Login options), and the directory utility, since it is required to verify what type of account it is and what type of service it is connected to, since it can be a windows server, the computer lost the domain.

Is the password change being made within the corporate network or outside of it?

Have you done tests connected by VPN?

Also, I tried to change my password by resetting it at login, but it's asking for a recovery key. I can't get a recovery key because I've switched to two-factor authentication. When I try to follow the instructions to generate a recovery key anyway, the instructions don't describe what I see in my system preferences. There is no "Recovery Key Section" to turn on. This is absolutely nuts.

This is a good question. It's a work computer, so I'm not entirely sure how the account was created. But we did migrate to a new server within the last two years, so would it be possible that if my password was set before that migration, it's trying to find the old server to authenticate the change? (I'll research it with my IT department, but they know nothing about Macs. Everyone in the company is using PCs except for six of us in Communications. Last time I needed something fixed, they took it to the Apple Store.)

I've been trying to change the password from within the corporate network while I'm at work. We do have a VPN (Cisco AnyConnect), but I only use that if I have to work from home, so I didn't think it was necessary for a password change at work. Here is the network window:
