Can an iPhone get malware from visiting an infected website?

I visited a URL today that I believed to be reputable, however it immediately redirected me many times to multiple websites with long, unrecognisable addresses before an Apple pop up appeared asking me if I wanted to open the Music app. I pressed no and closed the tab. I have since cleared “history and website data” in Safari settings, and was using private browsing at the time. What I would like to know is whether my iPhone 8 could have been infected with any malware or if any other security/privacy breaches could have occurred when I visited this site. I scanned the website afterwards with a safety checker tool, and the report came back as there being a malicious infection and redirects. I main worry is that I have my debit card stored in Apple Pay and also in Auto-fill, along with all of my logins. Could I be at risk? Thank you in advance 🙂

I did not click “Install” on anything, but I might have accodently tapped the page while trying to go back out of it all. What concerned me most was the pop up requesting to open the Music app. But I should be okay? (I’m not jail broken, but have read online that just opening an infected webpage can inject malware into the iPhone... not sure whether this is true or not, or if there are any precautions I could do just to be safe)

It is not true. A web page can trick you into installing a Profile that can override some of the security features, but you would see a dialog asking you if it was OK. If you think this might have happened, go to Settings/General, scroll to the bottom, and look between VPN and Regulatory. If there is nothing there then you did not accept any proffered profiles. If you DO see either Device Management or Profiles in that space open it, select the profile and delete it. Then restart your phone. Note that there can be legitimate profiles, either from an employer, school or a carrier (although there should be no carrier profiles in the US).

Yes, all is OK. If you get redirected in a situation like this, or you start getting what appear to be "pop-ups" with offers (Amazon gift cards, free iPhones, etc) note that the are annoying, but harmless. Don't tap on them anywhere; instead just close the page. And if it appears that you can't get rid of them see: Dealing with Safari popups that won't go away

The best protection is to get one of the many ad blockers available in the App Store; many of them are free. Read the reviews to choose the best one for you.
