Installation stuck for macOS High Sierra

I am using 2011 13' MacBook pro which had macOS High Sierra. Today when I switched on Mac it didn't boot. I opened up the Recovery and did first aid for Macintosh HD and it has failed. I tried again and again by restarting Mac and selecting partition (holding opt key at the startup) but it didn't work too. Finally using diskutil I formatted my drive, wiped the data and used the option to Reinstall macOS Sierra from recovery menu. But now the installation of OS has stuck and not progressing further from about 2hrs now. Please advise and help to fix the issue.

Hard shut down the computer. Press and hold down the power button until the computer shuts down. Wait 15 seconds.

Snow Leopard Erase and Install

  1. Insert Snow Leopard DVD into the optical drive and restart the computer.
  2. Immediately upon hearing the chime hold down the C key.
  3. Release the key when the Apple logo appears and wait for the loading to finish.
  4. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities' menu. After Disk Utility loads select the out-dented disk entry from the side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive size.) Click on the Partition tab in the Disk Utility’s right window. Set the number of partitions to one (1) from the drop down menu. Click on the Options button and select GUID, click OK button, set the format type to MacOS Extended, Journaled. Finally, click on the Apply button.
  5. After formatting has finished quit Disk Utility. Continue with the OS X installation and follow the directions.
  6. When the installation has finished the computer will restart into the Setup Assistant. After you complete the Setup Assistant you will be running a fresh installation of Snow Leopard. Open Software Update and install the recommended updates.
  7. If you are planning to sell or give your computer away, then do the following: After you reformat your hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard, the computer restarts to a Welcome screen. To leave the Mac in an OOTB (Out Of The Box) state, don't continue with the setup. Instead, press Command and Q keys to shut down the computer. The Setup Assistant will guide the new owner through the setup process after he/she turns on the computer.
  8. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

If the computer restarts properly then sign into the App Store and re-download High Sierra. After the installer has downloaded be sure to save a copy in your Downloads folder. Then install High Sierra.

If your model supports Internet Recovery (did not come with DVDs and had Lion or later pre-installed) then do this instead of the above:

Internet/Network Recovery of El Capitan or Later on a Clean Disk

If possible back up your files before proceeding.

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the (Command-Option-R) keys until a globe appears.
  2. The Utility Menu will appear in from 5-20 minutes. Be patient.
  3. Select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button.
  4. When Disk Utility loads select the drive (usually, the out-dented entry) from the side list.
  5. Click on the Erase tab in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
  6. Set the partition scheme to GUID.
  7. Set the Format type to APFS (SSDs only) or Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  8. Click on the Apply button, then click on the Done button when it activates.
  9. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  10. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

Note:

1. To install the version of OS X that was currently installed use Command-Option-R.

2. To install the original factory version when the computer was new use Command-Option-Shift-R.

Thanks Kappy for your response.

I tried cmd+option+shift+R to install factory version of macOS (OS X Lion). But I'm not able to succeed in installation of the OS. Sometime the installation stucks at internet recovery (Globe keeps on moving for close 2 hours) and twice when I was able to access the OS X installation menu, the system got restarted during installation and after that question mark sign keeps on flashing instead resuming the installation progress of the OS X. I tried opening internet recovery mode post that but it's getting stuck on the globe. I have read many blogs and created OS X ElCapitan bootable USB (fortunately had the dmg setup) but after holding option key during startup I'm just able to see the Mac OS X installer drive on screen and not my USB drive. So on chosing OS X installer, the question mark keeps on flashing again and I am helpless to find a way into this flashing question mark.

Please advise how to proceed now. I seriously need help with this. Appreciate all your time and effort in resolving this one.

Thanks, Aditya

Mac was not able to detect the USB bootable stick that I created for OS X ElCapitan. But now internet recovery mode was able to proceed using Cmd+opt+R and I initiated the installation of macOS High Sierra. Installation seems to stuck towards the end. As from the past one hour progress bar says about 2min remaining. Attached is the screenshot. Is there a point waiting more like an hour more and see how it goes. Please advise. Here is the screenshot.
