I came across a website suggesting that Mac users needed to get anti-virus protection and recommended Avast free for Mac. Has anyone tried it? Does it slow down your processor?
My Comcast email account was recently hacked so I'm a little more sensitive to this now.

No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system. And Avast is one of the worst.

Any A/V program is pointless on a Mac and will not only slow the performance, but can cause damage. Avast is no exception. Even if they worked they wouldn't prevent someone's email from being hacked.
