where can I see or change the security type for my wireless gateway?

There are several items which you may need familiarity to best make use of wi-fi & secure settings.


Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points ...

These Wi-Fi router (or Wi-Fi base station) settings are for all Mac computers and iOS devices.

They provide the best performance, security, and reliability when using Wi-Fi.

How to reset your AirPort base station | 9to5Mac

Doing a soft reset will reset the base station's password and disable security. Use this

method if you'd like to still keep all of your settings but forgot your password.

AirPort Utility on the App Store - itunes.apple.com

This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices. ...the AirPort Express base station

... this really shows up in the design/setup for limiting wi-fi ...

There's a good iOS User Guide - or App (iOS11.+) and an online version that could be of help.

While I have these in my iOS devices, of differing vintage, look to find one from iOS book app.


Network configurations are more easily inspected and tested from a Mac or PC at another

level than iOS; however the later iDevice systems can offer more detailed information.
