4th Generation ipad

I have just noticed that several of the apps I have can no longer be updated on my iPad as they now require iOS 11 or higher. So the only solution I now have is either by a new iPad or go to an android tablet which is much cheaper if I want to continue to use these apps.

iPad Wi-Fi, iOS 10.3.3

9.7" iPad 6th Generation starts at $329 Buy iPad 9.7-inch - Apple

A refurbished iPad 5th Generation starts at $309: Refurbished iPad - Apple

With that said however, have the apps stopped working? Have they stopped doing what you need them to do?

Just because they are not updated, does not mean the stop being functional. If they still work and do what you need them to, then the update is not necessary.

Consider the iPad 4 is now 6 years old and unfortunately was the last 32Bit iPad made. Technology moves on, but does not stop older tech from continuing to work.

I have an iPad 4th Generation model, too. It’s limited on the iOS update and also some apps. It‘s slower than a newer model but it still works just fine with all my apps. I only have two apps right now that say they will not update to a newer version of the app. The version of those two apps work okay as it is.

I also just got a new iPad Sixth Generation model, with a Cellular connection for $330 and I put an Apple extended warranty on it. I would say that’s pretty cheap, actually.

But, really ... in the tech world, things get out of date pretty quickly. That’s been the case with me since I got my first Apple Macintosh back in 1984. That’s the way it is ... you have to eventually upgrade and you’re happy when you get the faster and more powerful device ...

An iPad 4 can run iOS 10. If the apps require iOS 10 and your iPad can run iOS 10 then what is the problem?

Like Michel, I am confused.

The issue is that some of the apps are no longer working as these companies have stopped supporting the older versions. I have several Airline Apps that now say they need to be updated and then that the new ones only work with iOS 11 and higher. This means I can no longer use these Apps to book or check on flights.

Unfortunately, this is true, then.

You will need to purchase a new iPad or a newer, refurbished iPad from Apple’s refurbished store, or look at something newer on the used market, making sure you do not get/purchase an iPad with Activation Lock.

Look, you have had a 6 year old iPad that got one more iOS upgrade than most.

Any technology is going to move forward and with mobile phones and mobile tablets, technology moves ahead much faster.

Android won’t be any better and you WILL have to be careful of the thousands of malware/viruses that are part of the Android experience.

My wife and I still own iPad 2 and 3 models and they haven't had any iOS upgrades in over 2/12 years.

We still get everyday use from these devices.

The iPad 4th gen only came out 6 months after the iPad 3 and my wife’s iPad 3 didn’t get iOS 10.

So, your iPad 4th gen got a whole additional year of iOS 10 upgrades/updates.

Yes, you could get a cheap Android phone or tablet to get access to these currently updated airline apps.

You can even purchase an iPhone SE from carriers, like T-Moble/Family Mobile and a couple others on the cheap now that supports iOS 11 and iOS 12.

My Wife and I own iPhone SE 32 GBs storage models. We paid only $160 each for these and use a fairly cheap “pay as you go” plan.

Your iPad 4th gen is still very useful for other things beside booking an airplane flight.

The decisions are strictly up to you.

Good Luck!
