iPhone and iPad message notification

Recently bought iPhone SE and although I continue to get messages on iPad there is no message notification on the iPad (notification on iPhone). New messages on iPad used to be flagged on the address bar with blue dot, now there is no way of iPad user to know if there is a new message without going thru the contact list one by one. Is there anyway of getting message notification back on iPad that stays there until opened on iPad?

Unfortunately that's not possible with the devices sharing the iCloud account.

On the iPad, go to Settings/ Notifications/ Messages and make sure it is still set to show you notifications (of whatever type you prefer).

Note that if you get a message which comes to both your iPhone and iPad, and then you open the message on the iPhone, the iPad notification will be cleared. Is that what you're referring to?
