Problems (different from others listed) with new AEBS & USB HD

I recently purchased a new AEBS, although I am not using the 802.11n functionality yet (still have a G4 PowerBook, upgrading soon). I have no problems getting online, and the reception seems fine. My problems arise when attempting to attach an external USB HD (also just purchased a LaCie Mini 500 GB USB HD/hub). I love the idea of beinig able to have a shared HD that I can access wirelessly from multiple machines, but I'm afraid I will have to return everything unless a solution arises.

I have seen many posts from people who have had trouble when trying to use USB HDs with their new AEBS, but none of the posts I have read address the issue that I am having. Here is a portion of the trouble ticket I sent to Lacie (still waiting for reply):

I have had a lot of problems trying to get this HD to function properly as a storage device on my wireless network (via my new Airport Extreme with a USB port that is meant to support this type of functionality).
Initially I was not able to get the disk image for the LaCie HD to mount on my desktop as an AirPort disk. After several power cycles and unplugging/re-plugging in cables, I can now access the disk. However, I am now unable to upload any files. Whenever I try to copy a file onto the LaCie HD (regardless of file type or size), I get an error message that says:

"You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do You want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items?"

(choices are Stop and Continue)

Regardless of which option I choose (or as I mentioned the size or type of the file(s), I am unable to copy anything onto the LaCie HD.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Initially I had a problem just getting the drive to mount properly on my desktop. This problem magically went away (or so it seems) after trying the same remedy over and over again. However, now there's another roadblock standing in my way.

Any help or insight is much appreciated - thanks!

UPDATE

Upon speaking with LaCie and Apple, I have determined that the issue was with my USB HD. I exchanged it for a new one - problem solved. Everything is working as it should, although the file transfer rate to the USB HD via my AEBS is not all that fast (about 1MB per second). I'm not sure if upgrading to an 802.11n machine will help, will check other posts.

I suspect your issue was with the drives formatting and they have simply given you another drive formatted differently.
