Yes, review the Apple give back program. My understanding was to get any $ back, it had to be fully functional in near perfect condition, or else they would accept it for recycling. I purchased the first generation with polished stainless steel & sapphire crystal which is still in perfect condition at 3yrs old. Upon submitting my serial #, Apple said they would give me $25 for it. Good luck.
