bluetooth speaker repeatedly disconnecting

My bluetooth speaker connects and disconnects within seconds from my Macbook air. It was working in the past. I restarted both the computer and the speaker, made it forget the speaker and find it again, turned off the bluetooth on any other devices nearby. Still it refuses to stay connected for more than 10 seconds and even when it says it's connected, the sound only comes out of the computer, not the speaker. It is sitting right next to the computer. WHY?

Hello hmarten,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand from your post, the Bluetooth device you have connected to your MacBook Air keeps disconnecting. I see you have tried really good troubleshooting steps so far.

Updating the macOS is the best way to make sure you have updated drivers for your Bluetooth device: How to update the software on your Mac
If after updating the macOS and the Bluetooth device still disconnects the manufacturer might have a software update that needs to be installed. We would recommend contacting the manufacturer to see if they are addressing any issues with their speaker firmware.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Take Care!
