How can I quickly clea all old messages on my apple watch after I have read them?

Old messages are managed automatically by your watch, but if you want to do the extra work just swipe left to delete. You can do it at individual message level, and if you go up to the list of conversations it looks like you can delete whole conversations containing multiple messages.
I thought the watch would manage the old texts and that they would disappear after I read them but, it seems to never delete them. I have had the watch a full year and done all he updates, but every month I I have the tedious task of manually deleting old texts.
Can’t Apple create the option for me to set the watch to clear all old/read texts? So I don’t have to do them one by one. My husband is having the same issue and absolutely hates it because he gets so many work texts. He has to clear them weekly and it takes him around 30 minutes.
Sync of messages between different iOS devices was added in a recent software update, but it has not yet been extended to include Apple Watch. Most users are hopeful this will come when iOS v12 and WatchOS v5 roll out. With luck there will be something in Apple's big announcement on Wednesday, but no promises until we hear the speakers.
