My iMessage isn't syncing to my new iPhone - what to do?

Hi! First off, I'm very sorry if there was already a forum made for this.. I could not find anything that worked for me yet. About a month ago, I went from an iPhone 5s to iPhone 8. Verizon told me that my old iPhone would automatically stop working after a while, but just in case I restarted it, put it on airplane mode, and shut it off. With my old phone, however, I used to use iMessage on my laptop very easily, since it connected to my phone via apple ID. However, it now won't sync any messages from my new iPhone. I still have the same apple ID and on my iPhone, I double checked that my apple ID still allowed my messages to be synced through my email. I also went on my iMessage preferences on my laptop and made sure to enable the account and imessages in icloud. I also tried to press the "sync now" button to sync to my icloud. However, nothing has worked! All my messages on my laptop are from my old phone. And I have no idea what to do now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

iPhone 8, iOS 11.4.1

Hello estdabest,
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you're having some trouble syncing your messages between your iPhone and your Mac, and I have some information that may help.
It sounds like you may have been using Continuity to sync your messages from your old iPhone 5s. With your new iPhone, you have a couple different options to keep your messages synced between your devices.
You can set up Continuity on your new phone, or you could also use the more recent feature, Messages in iCloud. Have a look at the articles below to learn more and to help decide which option best suits your needs.

Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support
Keep all your messages in iCloud - Apple Support
It's important to note that when you use Messages in iCloud, your messages are no longer stored as part of your iCloud backup. If you delete a message permanently you will not be able to restore it from the backup.

If you run into any trouble, please reach out again.
Best Regards.
