Mirror Display Apple TV and iPhone X

Why doesn‘t my Apple TV (4th gen) display my iPhone X mirroring when in landscape mode?

It displays properly on the iPhone X and then I try to mirror it on my Apple TV, but it is still in portrait mode on my Apple TV. Any ideas or workarounds?

Greetings, randynchicago.

I see that you're trying to mirror the display of your iPhone X to your Apple TV (4th generation). The issue is, it will only mirror your iPhone X while it's in Portrait mode, and I'm happy to help.

How to AirPlay video and mirror your device's screen to Apple TV

Mirror your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Use Screen Mirroring to see the entire screen of your iOS device on your Apple TV.

  1. On your iOS device, open Control Center and tap User uploaded file Screen Mirroring.
  2. Select your Apple TV from the list. If you don’t see your Apple TV, make sure that your iOS device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV. Need help?
  3. If an AirPlay passcode appears on your TV screen, enter the passcode on your iOS device.

Your TV uses your iOS device's screen orientation and aspect ratio. To fill your TV screen with the mirrored iOS device screen, change your TV's aspect ratio or zoom settings.

To stop mirroring your iOS device, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, then tap Stop Mirroring. Or press the Menu button on your Apple TV remote.

Thank you for getting back to us with that information, randynchicago. It's appreciated. I do have another process for you to use.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- First, restart your iPhone X. Once it's returned to the Home screen, test the issue.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- If restarting your iPhone didn't resolve the issue, please be sure to have a fresh backup to keep your personal information safe. In order to back up your Health data, the backup needs to be encrypted. iCloud does this automatically, but iTunes doesn't. If you'd like to use iTunes to back up your iPhone, refer to this article: About encrypted backups in iTunes

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Even though the title of the article isn't specific to your issue, the section titled "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again" will walk you through all the steps to reinstall the iOS software on your device. Test the issue once again.

Let me know how that goes, and enjoy your day!
