Burnt out chip

Hi to everyone!

A day ago my old fellow (MacBook Pro, 13-inch, Mid 2010, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB) suddenly turned off with small smell behind... For a while (ca. 30 min.) no sign of life but afterwards went back like nothing had happened.

When I opened the case, I found a defect but have no idea what exactly was damaged...

Any ideas what was damaged and if can I safely use my Mac?

Thank you in advance!

Hard to say from the pictures It could be due to liquid damage. It could also happen if the bottom case were pushed in enough to short something. I'd look for evidence of an impact on the case bottom.

Either way, you are probably looking at a new logic board.
