Dolby surround decoder w/ Bass Management?

Hi there,

With the arrival soon of Dolby Atmos on iTunes purchased movies, how can I decode the surround sound on MacOS to separate and decode the audio channels to send to loudspeakers of my choosing, instead of having to use an external AVR.

I know that in the Audio MIDI Setup app that it is possible to select up to 7.1 Dolby Digital Plus decoding when connected to an external audio interface with enough output channels. I've not tried it, but it appears to decode the Dolby stream into LCR, RS, LS, RRS, LRS, Sub discrete channels.

Are there any third party AU plugins or utilities that allow dialling-in:

  • speaker distance from listening position (time alignment)
  • cross-over or high / low pass settings (Small or Large speakers)
  • bass management or LFE redirection (send all 'Small' speaker bass to LFE, or send LFE to LR main if there's no separate LFE channel)
  • support for Dolby Atmos decoding

There seem to be fully licensed options on Windows, but I'm not aware of any on the MacOS.

Dolby Labs sell encoders / decoders for professionals, but these don't appear designed for high-end consumers.
