How do I access an old iPhoto library saved to an external HD?

My Mac is running OS X, which has no iPhoto application. I saved an old iPhoto library to an external hard drive, and now do not know how to access the photos.

Accessing Photos from iPhoto on Old Hard Drive We have a couple old Mac hard drives (pre-cloud) with photos we are trying to access. I have one hard drive plugged into my MacBook via an adapter converter and have attempted to access the old photos by right clicking on the iPhoto icon and clicking “Show Package Contents,” following directions from a previous thread. My problem is there is neither an “Originals” or a “Masters” file once I do this. Is there another option I should look for, or another folder those files should be in? Thanks in advance!

Old iphoto library is not accessible 58,000 pictures I cannot view My old mac - 2006- would not update any further, so I backed up everything to a a new TB drive. I have my old iphoto library on the drive but cannot access it (it is shaded) or import it into iphoto on my new Mac Pro. I have tried the control-click - doesn't work. I have tried to open with Command and choose a new library, doesn't work. I cannot use the updater as my photos are on an external drive in an inaccessible folder. Please help- otherwise, I have lost my son's entire childhood....

You can open the library with Photos.app, which does come with OS X.
