Music stops when paused in background

Steps to reproduce on a phone:

1. Open app

2. Start playing

3. Minimize app

4. Pause playing

5. Wait 1-2 mins

6. Start playing again and current song starts from the beginning

I have to pause very often during my work to speak to people around and that means I would listen same song all day. Not great.

Is there any way to change this behaviour or is it a bug?

Device: Pixel 2 XL, playing using Bluetooth, Beats headphones, Appe Music app set to unrestricted background use, battery optimization disabled for it.
