What can be stored on the 64gb apple tv 4k? Movies, photos, apps, games, netflix content for offline viewing?

I am thinking about getting the apple tv 4k 64gb. I would like to know what can be stored on the 64gb? Is it downloaded movies, photos, music, apps, games, Netflix content for offline viewing perhaps? Just would like to know how to fully use it to its full potential? I do have a external HD with movies if it will be able to access them using VLC. I currently have a 3rd gen apple tv and love it, but think the new one will be better for my uses. I watch a lot of netflix and movies. I have several movies on thru apple, but havent downloaded them due to eating up all my space on my ipad mini. Thoughts?

Your Apple TV streams video and music, but it stores apps locally. The more apps you download to Apple TV, the more storage is used up. At some point you may get a warning that you’re running out of disk space. If so, you can remove apps to free up space.

correct, 64gb model mostly makes sense for people who want a lot of games, which use lots of storage most other apps mainly stream their content from some online source

So the only thing that can be stored is apps? Not photos, music, or video? It would be nice to store other things on there for off-line use.

You can buy an external storage for your Mac to store and stream over to your TV.

That is correct, it is a streaming device and advertised as such. The only Apple TV that allowed syncing was the 1st gen. 4K content on iTunes is streaming only, and not available for download on any device, Netflix downloads are only for mobile and blocked from airplay.

You can use the VLC app, but not with iTunes content (for those you would need to use home sharing)
