Can iPhone XR watch 1080p videos?

The person who wrote the OP was being told the iPhone XR could NOT play 1080p videos. They were told it could only support 720p. It most certainly can support 1080p. That was the question. And it's been answered.

XR will play 1080p but down scaled to somewhere higher than 720p but lower than 1080p. I've watched blind screen test of XR vs other 1080p screens, well they picked the XR as better screen.

It can play 1080p videos but scaled down. Not in 1080p.

Definately. iphone 7 can gloriously play 1080p videos then why cant iPhone XR? I already preordered XR White 64GB coz I am a poor man.

I have this question too. But, think about it, the XR resolution is 828x1792 and iphone 7 is 750x1334. So, in theory, if an iphone 7 can watch 1080p video, XR can watch it too. In my opinion, it is a LCD screen so it might be almost the same as iphone 7 screen. But!!! XR is 6.1 inch so it might be affected a little bit. From the paper, 1080p shouldn't be a problem on daily use. It is just that it is still a LCD panel. I am going to consider XR anyway (because i am not rich hahahaa)

Youtube is going to give you the option to change the video to “1080p”, however, because the phone is in 720p, you won’t be able to see the 1080p. It’a almost like Youtube is faking it. But that’s not a bad thing necessarily because 720p and 1080p are basically the same.

His "friend" can know. You can easily know this by PPI and resolution. 1920 x1080 is Full HD, iPhone XR has

1792 x 828 resolution.

You simply won't notice a difference on a screen that is mere inches big. Differences in viewing quality would require a screen significantly bigger.

Most of the people will not notice any difference at all. I agree that. Moreover apple displays have been always better than most LCDs in the market.

First off you’re not the PPI patrol and just in case you also didn’t know that megapixels in a camera don’t matter if you have a crap lens, hence why the best photos ever come from film cameras and not digital! This will be able to play 1080p I’m pretty sure, now will it be true 1080p...that’s the real question! The phone will be out soon and best to place facts then!

You cannot watch 1080p on the iPhone XR. It's PPI is too low.

If they buy an Xr and open youtube, the video will play.

iphone 8 have 326ppi, just like iphone xr, why can I watch 1080p in iphone 8 and cant watch in xr??
