why am I getting Verification failed when I try to sign into my Apple ID. My password is correct. Error there was a error connecting to the Apple ID server

This is either a connection issue or an incorrect password issue. Try connecting on another wifi or use your data to sign in. If not, then your password is definitely not correct and you need to reset it.
