No. It's not Apple's problem or Apple's fault. The carriers have control over the option as to whether you can disable 3G and force it down to 2G. Most carriers are shutting down their 2G networks entirely.
Hello!
See this, please.
About the LTE options on your iPhone - Apple Support
Also you can use swith menu 2g,3g,LTE if you have old sim-card. Now in Ukraine i'm use newest 4g sim and i havent this menu. If i put old sim card menu is on and i can do choice 2g,3g,LTE. On old sim card you can't use LTE mode. On ios 11 i have this menu with my newest sim card.
Have a nice day )
The ability to disable 3G, forcing the phone down to 2G (EDGE) is controlled by your cellular carrier. Most carriers are either in the process of or have already completely shut down their 2G networks so that they can re-use the bandwidth for high speed services.
I am sorry but you are wrong. Using the same sim card in other iphones with lower IOS gives option to switch to 2G. Same sim card with Android, you will get an option of 2G. So apple has scrapped the toggle switch for 2G.
Carrier decision comes in place only if you see your sim service to auto.
Sorry guys. Some are missing the point here.
Did you take the time to read any of this thread? The phone designer did not do this, the customer's carrier did. Apple cannot resolve the issue and provide network access. The carrier is in charge of network access on their network, and they control it with the carrier file. Talk to your carrier!
Apple must have to reactivate full data options.
Apple cannot reactivate full data options. The carrier is the one that supplies the carrier file, and they make the decision as to what options you have regarding your cellular network.
Guys, I’m a apple fan. But not a blind apple fun. So we have to admit.
This is a fact. People that upgrade gadgets up to ios 12. Don’t have the 2g classic option anymore.
Even more Telecoms shut down 2g. These days many carries keep it. So, many users would like to still use 2g network, for any reasons.

If it is cellular carrier issue than why after downgrading to 11.4.1 I again have option to choose 2g?
Because when you did that, you wiped out the carrier update that was applied which enforces the limited choice. Sooner or later, the carrier update will be re-applied. If you reject the carrier update, your cellular service may be interrupted or may not work correctly.
No. I'm not wrong. Whether you can manually disable 3G, forcing the phone to EDGE is at the discretion of your carrier.
If the switch to do so isn't there, it's because YOUR CARRIER decided to remove it.
You're complaining to the wrong people. Go complain to your carrier.
History is repeating...
Apple (not carriers) try to kill 2G switch on iOS8
http://ios8release.com/enable-2g-3g-toggle-option-in-ios-8/
...
and back to 2G switch in iOS 8.1.1
http://www.iphonehacks.com/2014/10/ios-8-1-switch-cellular-data-2g-3g-lte.html
And yes, Apple do this with carrier settings file but mostly without any knowledge of carriers
So we need to wait for Apple to fix this or to buy some Androids. (or stay away from iOS 12)

Sorry KiltedTim. You are wrong and maybe don’t understand the real point of this topic.
No, I am not wrong.
Apple does not remove the option from the phone. Your carrier does that with an updated carrier file. It doesn't matter how many times people try to blame this on Apple, it's not going to alter reality one bit. The carrier removed the option, not Apple.
Go complain to them if it makes you unhappy.
The carrier makes those files.
Go complain to your carrier. Apple did not take the switch away from you.
They did give your carrier the ability to remove the switch, which they have chosen to do.

I hope apple team will review & consider to bring back 2G only mode for Indian customers because calling quality is in the first place and data requirement is secondary.
It is NOT up to Apple. It's up to your carrier.
This issue has to be fixed by Apple only. Apple team may automated network selection choice based on SIM Card configurations. Network type selection should be left to end users only in India. Right now, I am forced to use my primary SIM card in my Samsung Galaxy S7 which support 2G network only mode. Sorry to say but my most expensive iPhone has became secondary phone with my alternate number from Reliance Jio SIM Card. We have to understand that none of the telecom service provider in India is meeting the customer expectations in 3G or 4G networks and therefore we have no choice but to change network mode to 2G Only network in India for better calling experience. Calls used get dropped frequently in 3G and 4G networks. Indian subscribers will be more than happy if apple provides options to select the network modes like 2G Only, 3G Only, 3G/2G (Auto connect), LTE/3G/2G (Auto Connect). In general, 2G Only network works well in India. Most of the users in India are using primary sim card number in 2G only network mode and secondary SIM card from Reliance Jio for data. That's dual SIM phone are very popular and successful in India. Indian users are looking forward to Apple team for providing us with an option to select 2G Only network mode.

Sorry. You're wrong. Your carrier determines what choices will be available based on the carrier file that they create and that is pushed by them to your device.
You're wasting your energy complaining about it here.
