What's the difference between Reminders and Calendar Reminders

I have always used the Events feature of Calendar. I use it extensively for all types of reminders. Each is color coded.

Never used Reminders because it seemed redundant and didn't show all color coded Events at a glance as Calendar does.. Why is Reminders necessary when I can set what I need in Calendar?

Reminders isn´t "necessary" anymore than Calendar is. You can use one or the other, or both, or neither! I use both, and tend to use Calendar for Events etc., like you do, and Reminders to jog my memory..."Do Tax returns!". "Ring Mr X!" and so on. I like the Calendar interface, especially on a large screen like my 27" iMac. It´s really just a matter of personal choice as I see it! And both sync flawlessly with iCloud, useful if you also have an iPhone. And they're both free and simple to use, not bloated with complicated features! Hope this helps you! Regards, Ian.

Thanks. Been using Mac for years. I use Calendar for every reminder I need such as Pay Bill, Appointments, To Dos, Holidays, Birthdays/Anniversaries, even Phillies and Eagles football schedule. Color coding each category gives me instant visual feed-back when looking at the Calendar in weekly or monthly view.

One of the coolest features is when I receive an email about a bill coming due, etc. all I have to due is click on the date and I'm able to set an event that goes straight to the Calendar.

I like the flexibility of moving an event from one day to another when necessary. Checking past events. Flexibility in noting the exact time and day I want to be reminded. Setting recurring events.

I just never got why Reminders was necessary. It just seemed somewhat redundant although it lacked some of the features of Calendar.

Again, thanks for your explanation. It helped me understand these 2 features of Mac OS.

There is another great way to use Reminders that Calendar can't.

I tend to forget my iPhone in the car cradle once I get to somewhere, especially at the office. I use Reminders with either the location (geofencing) feature or the "disconnect from car" feature. It will pop-up and sound a reminder as your are entering the geofencing area you marked or as soon as you shut your car off as it close the connection between the car and the device. I also have an Apple Watch and Reminders are duplicate on it. See the "location" option for the proper setting. Reminders can also be program using Siri...
