How do I quit "Spotlight"

Hi,

Open the Activity Monitor app located in /Applications/Utilities.

Select any tab at the top of that window then select Spotlight then click the Force Quit button (square with an x).

Then go to the App Store, select Updates from the menu and try updating Safari.

What happens when you Spotlight is open and you tap the Escape key?
